Angelo Vítor Simplicio da Silva, known as Pretinho da Serrinha, grew up in the Serrinha community of Rio de Janeiro. As a child he learned to play percussion and cavaquinho with the local samba school, Imperio Serrano. Pretinho quickly caught the attention of major artists in Brazil, including Seu Jorge, who recruited him for his band. Pretinho composed many hit songs with Seu Jorge and toured all over the world. Pretinho has also worked with Marisa Monte, Caetano Veloso, Maria Rita, Sergio Mendes, Marcelo D2, Lulu Santos, Dudu Nobre and Beth Carvalho, among many others. “Pretinho has become one of the best musicians from Brazil … precise and inventive,” says the singer Caetano Veloso. “Pretinho Serrinha is a great artist, of extreme confidence, not only at work but in life as well. I’m lucky to have this guy as part of my career,” declares Seu Jorge. On the CarnaBrazil Cruise, Pretinho da Serrinha will lead the “rodas de samba” at the pool where he will welcome the other artists to sing samba classics. He will also join Zeca Pagodinho and other artists for the main performances in the theater.
